Usage concept and remodeling historic cemetery
This competition is intended to show possible ways in which the historic cemetery in Sion (Sitten) can be integrated into an urban park.
The relationship between the adjoining monastery building and the historic cemetery is no longer clear from the southern expansion of the cemetery. The goal of the project is to clearly define this relationship again.
The project focuses on the preservation of the historic cemetery and integration as the centerpiece of the new park.
The historical structures of the monastery building and the cemetery are determined by mineral elements. A wall serves as a border and defines the outlines of the new park. It is in dialogue with the striking monastery wall, takes over level differences and redirects a promenade around the park. At the interface to the street, the wall volatilizes and changes its function into a bench. The border between the street and the sidewalk is dissolved. A meeting zone indicates the connection with the monastery.
