Retrofit

Abandoned for 30 years, the Mayen has endured consequent deterioration. The renovation project has linked the two existing volumes, the house and the barn. The existing wooden structure has been maintained and some deteriorated pieces changed.

Running water is obtained from a source within the forest. The thermal solar panels help to pre-warm the water whilst the photovoltaics provide electricity. The wood-burning stove provides a place to cook, meets the need for hot water and heats the house.

The remodeled Mayen is totally self-sustaining: It is not connected to any network and is self-sufficient, making the most of local renewable energies (water, wood, sun, etc.).
