Competition for the design of a district square and parking lot in Uitikon

The Sweet Lou project redefines and characterizes the accommodation area in Uitikon.

The new building stretches along the road and acts as a border to the outside area and the accommodation area. The structure of the building opens to the new square and defines the functional areas. These areas follow the geometrical structure of the roof, which extends over the space in a protective way.

Upon arrival, the entrance and exit ramp of the ground floor can be seen. It is followed by the waste collection area, bicycle parking, the offices and the large covered plaza.

Sweet Lou forms the new entrance gate to the district, as a link between city and nature. This connection is underlined by the placement of a planted slope along the building as an extension of the adjacent fields. Transparent incisions in the vertically structured façade allow the daylight to enter the ground floor. The spacious ground floor with a room height of 3.50 m is designed multifunctional as it can be converted from parking deck to a common hall. The ventilation is provided through the façade and the three light and ventilation shafts, which are integrated into the use of the accommodation area.

The recreation zone is developing around a newly formed wooded island. A temporary building site is an existing part of the system and houses a possible stage. The place is separated by trees, which are arranged in pots.
